The Dead Rabbit was opened on February 12th, 2013 by two Irishmen, Sean Muldoon and Jack McGarry.
Sean and Jack came to New York after building a groundbreaking cocktail bar program at The Merchant Hotel in Belfast, which was awarded World’s Best Bar at the 2010 Tales of The Cocktail Spirited Awards. The Dead Rabbit has twice won that title. So far.
The bar is housed in an 1828 landmarked building. It is a mid-19th century style Irish/New York drinking saloon distributed over three floors. Each floor offers a slightly different experience. An extensive ground-floor extension will open in Spring 2019.

Jack co-founded The Dead Rabbit with Sean Muldoon in 2013. In the same year he was named International Bartender of the Year at Tales of the Cocktail, the youngest-ever winner of the title. Before The Dead Rabbit, the former boy wonder worked at Milk & Honey in London and The Merchant Hotel in Belfast, named World’s Best in 2010. Sure, he’s still a cocktail-bustin’ crusader, just without the cape.
Sean co-founded The Dead Rabbit with Jack McGarry in 2013. He is admired/feared (you choose) throughout the bar world for his vision, drive and insane attention to detail. Before opening The Dead Rabbit, Sean was Bar Manager at The Merchant Hotel in Belfast in 2010, when it became the first bar outside the US to be named World’s Best at Tales of the Cocktail. Coincidence? Nuh-uh.

Jessica has been with the team since 2013. She started as a server, quickly became maître d’ and is now an Operating Partner. By age 25, Jessica had received both her Level One and Two Court of Master Sommeliers Certificates. Melissa has been with The Dead Rabbit since day one. Before joining us, she worked at some very good bars and restaurants in NYC. But the truth is, we were just waiting for each other. Melissa started as a bartender, then became head bartender, assistant general manager and is now an Operating Partner. That’s not just hard work. That’s destiny.
